Thelma “Joyce” Flynn – Hughes, 88, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away peacefully in the early Sunday morning hours on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at her home with her son, Scott after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born on April 19, 1933 in Gatliff, Kentucky Joyce was the daughter of Charles “Garrett” & Margaret (Parks) Davis. She was a school teacher for 30 years in the Jefferson County public school system. Mostly grades 3 - 5. She was also a member of South Park Country Club. She was an active member of Kenwood Baptist Church, and McGregor Baptist Church. She was a true Christian lady, and was Baptized in the local creek as a teenager.
Her parents, Garrett & Margaret (Parks) Davis; son, Rodney D. Flynn; siblings, Earl E. Parks, Sr. & Doris “Jean” Dever; her first husband, Carl Flynn; & second husband, William “Bill” Hughes, precede Joyce in her passing.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Scott D. Flynn; grandchildren, David Flynn, Christy Flynn & Samantha Flynn; daughter –in – law, Diane Dramko – Flynn; sister, Marcella Smith; plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
In lieu of Flowers & customary expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Foundation.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. in the Dignity Chapel of the Evergreen Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery & Garden Mausoleums. Memorial Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 11:30 a.m. also at the Evergreen Funeral Home
