Roy was born on March 17, 1945 to the late Roy and Ambie Carroll of Louisville, KY. After Roy graduated from Southern High School in 1965, he went on to serve his great country as a member of the United States Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War.
Following his years of service in the Air Force, Roy advanced his career in the printing industry. Most of his career was spent with The American Printing House for the Blind, where he met the love of his life, Janice. He enjoyed spending his free time bowling, golfing and pitching horseshoes with friends.
Roy and Janice were married at Grace Immanuel UCC on May 25, 1974 and he became an immediate father to his son Michael and welcomed daughters Emily and Cathy shortly after. They were active members at American Turners, Louisville for many years. Roy also cherished his fellowship with other vets at the American Legion, Zachary Taylor Post #180 where he served and volunteered.
Following his retirement, Roy spent many years with his wife camping in their RV and playing cards and slots at Belterra Casino.
Roy was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Ambie Carroll, nephew Scotty Jeffries, and great grandson Clive Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Janice Furlong Carroll, and children Michael (Lisa) Carroll, Emily (Chris) Miesner, Cathy (Jeff) Elmore and grandchildren, Katelyn Carroll, Zachary Carroll, Alexis (Kyle) Thomas, Mason Miesner, Timmy Elmore, Tony Elmore, Emmett Orr, and great grandchildren, Gabriel, Elizabeth and Genevieve Thomas and Kyson Elmore. He also leaves behind a sister, Betty Sue (Roland) Jeffries, niece Rene (Doug) Peters, nephews Chris Jeffries and Ryan (Stephanie) Jeffries and many cousins.
Visitation and memorial service will be held at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd, Louisville, KY on Friday, August 18th from 4-7pm with military honors at 5pm. Celebration of life will be held at American Legion, Zachary Taylor Post #180 on August 19, 4-7pm and American Turners, Louisville on August 20, 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to your favorite veteran charity or organization.
