Michael Kwok Ng

He was born on October 13, 1950, as the beloved son of his late parents, Ng Thien Kong and Mak Kim, who preceded him in death. Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Chalida M. Ng, and loving children: Jason M. Ng and wife Liza, and Alex M. Ng and wife Kellen. He was the doting grandfather to Auggie, Jules, Lily, Max, Anna, and Gabriel.

Michael grew up with his family in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia in his childhood. He immigrated to America at age 18 with one suitcase and settled in West Virginia, where he met his “adoptive” parents in America, Samuel and Jenny West. He graduated from West Virginia State College with a degree in mathematics and economics followed by a masters degree in industrial engineering from West Virginia University in Morgantown and a masters in business administration from Marshall University. He then worked for decades at Columbia Gas Transmissions in Charleston, WV, where he rose to senior leadership before his retirement.

Michael was an avid fan of WVU, Indycar racing, police procedural shows, old comedies, airplanes, and attending his sons’ soccer games. Above all else, he loved his family and sacrificed so much so they could achieve their dreams. He was a man of great character, honesty, integrity, and hard work, all of which he instilled in his children and grandchildren, and we will all miss him deeply.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at the University of Pittsburgh, University of Louisville, and Charleston Area Medical Center for the wonderful care they provided Dad.
