She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, her son Doug and his wife Rene’, three grandchildren (Megan, Andrew, and Bethany), seven great grandchildren (Conner, Sarah, Leah, Caleb, Caden, Carter, and Heather), two sisters, Betty Wheatley and her three sons, Fred, Rick and Mark, and Carol Diamond (Gary) and their children John and Laura.
Mary Lou while working with the telephone company met her husband Pete, when the Telephone Girls met soldiers on leave from the Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, Maryland at the Alcázar ballroom in Baltimore, Maryland. After a long distance courtship between Edgewood, Maryland and Louisville, Kentucky, they were married April 14, 1956.
Mary Lou graduated from the Maryland Institute of Art. She was a lifelong artist and singer. She was a charter member of the Sweet Adelines, and sang with the Joyous Singers for many years. She also sang with the Calvary Lutheran church choir.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Mary Lou and Pete were avid travelers with the Friendship Force where they met friends around the world.
She had served as a past President of Meadow Heights women’s club and Klondike elementary PTA.
A visitation in Mary's honor will be held Thursday December 29, 2022 from 10AM- 1PM with a 1PM funeral service held at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218.
