He was retired from General Electric as Manager of the Product Service Department. Stan was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Prospect and had been a Soccer Coach for the Oldham County Soccer Association.
He was an Eagle Scout, Expert Marksman, Journeyman Meat Cutter and loved to fish. He graduated from Georgia Southern University, attended Gordon Military College and University of Georgia. Stan was also a Diehard Georgia Bulldog Fan.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David Van Houten; parents, Gracie Kate and Jackson Van Houten; nephew, Michael Van Houten and niece Zackie Van Houten Boen
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Force Van Houten; two children, Scott Van Houten (Kory) and Bryan Van Houten (Natalie); five siblings, T.J. Van Houten (Ann), Kathey Turner (Wendell), Marcus Van Houten (Randee) and Marsha Van Houten; adopted sister, Denise Dixon (Eddie); four grandchildren, Michael, Maggie, Jonah and Jack; special friend, Sohan Makker and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, October 26, 2012 at St. John United Methodist Church, 12700 US 42 in Prospect. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 pm in the parlor of Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road.
Memorial expressions may be made to St. John United Methodist, Walden School or Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve Center.
