Mr. Barnes was born in Nelson County, June 30, 1940, to the late Everett and Zelma Barnes.
He was a welder for L&N Railroad, a self employed house painter, an Army Veteran and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Joe will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, especially his trade mark corny jokes.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Jeannie Barnes; children, Julie Haag (Donnie), Jennifer Groves (Mike), Tony Barnes (Krista Brummette); brother, James Barnes (Barbara); grandchildren, Austin, Jared, Cary, Jackson, Aaron and Connor.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, 12 noon, at Evergreen Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Thursday, and after 10:00 am Friday until the time of the service.
The family would like to request that memorial donations in Mr. Barnes' name be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
