John L. Zimmerman, 86 passed away on January 11, 2021 after a long battle with dementia. He was born in Louisville, KY on January 27, 1934 to the late John Lithgow and Aline Dorsey Zimmerman. Left to cherish a lifetime of wonderful memories are his wife, the former Patricia Nicolas, who was his high school sweetheart, or as he fondly called her for the 64 years of their marriage, “his bride”. Four children, Denise Poukish (Roy), Diane McCune (Bill), John Zimmerman, Patrick Zimmerman (Andrea). Nine grandchildren, Joshua Ware(Stephanie), Matthew Ware (Tamara), Seth Ware, Tyler McCune (Cindy),
Lindsey Meiser (Zachary), John Emery, Melissa Emery, Lilli Zimmerman and Clay Zimmerman. Seven great-grandchildren. His sister, Dorsey Ford, brother in law Kenneth Nicolas (Kerry) and his nieces, nephews and his fur-baby Penny.
John was a retired Executive Salesman at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company where he was appointed to the Sales Hall of Fame. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and was a former Grand Knight of the Assumption Counsel. He was a member and President of the Goose Creek Optimist Club and served as Lt. Governor of the Kentucky District for Optimist International. He was a long time member of the former Mother of Good Counsel Parish, now St. Bernadette and served on the Parish Council. He was a proud Veteran of the Army. After retirement he volunteered at SCORE for ten years. John devoted his life to serving others and providing for his family. Anyone that met John knew him to be gracious, kind and full of life. He would light up a room with laughter and had a larger than life personality. He never met a stranger. His philosophy in life was “It can be done” and the “glass is half full”. He loved spending time with his children and bride, enjoying family parties and seeing others having fun. He had many friends that preceded him and for those that are left behind he said if you had any questions send him a “text message” to Heaven.
