John was born on August 31, 1933, to Bernadine McCreary and John H. Ward. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Maldonado Ward and grandson, Justin Ward.
John served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa for two years. He then went on to become a Sheet Metal Worker of Local Union #110 where he retired after 63 years of hard work that he loved. He even served on their credit union board for several years.
John truly died of a “broken heart.” Just 5 weeks prior to his passing, he lost his wife, the love of his life of 68 years, Mary Ward. He and his wife raised 6 children that he was so proud of. He always doted over all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His Legacy will live on through them for years to come.
Survivors include his six children: son, Michael J. Ward (Kim); daughter, Linda Murphy (Carl); son, Phillip Ward; son, Mark Ward (Norma); daughter, Sandra Wessling (Tom); son, John William Ward, Jr. (Machelle); his grandchildren: Jeremy Hardin, Jamey Ward, Chris Murphy (Chelsea), Daniel Murphy (Courtney), Brandon Ward, Travis Ward (Kaitlyn), Madison Murr (Jake), Whitney Proffitt (Toby), Grant Wessling, Jonathan Ward (Autumn); great grandchildren: Andrew Jones, Jacob Jones, Rylan Murphy, Kaylee Manley, Bryson Arnold, Emery Hall, Easton Hall, Ryder Ward, and Wesley Ward; and his cousin: Joe Hammell (Pat).
John’s visitation will be 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 3 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road; A funeral service in his honor will be at 12:00 PM on Monday, November 4 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
