John Wallace Walker passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, August 6, two days after his 91st birthday. John was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Ralph Wallace and Mildred Tozer Walker. He grew up in Ft. Mitchell and attended his beloved Beechwood High School where he played football and was awarded a Highway Department scholarship to the University of Kentucky. There he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity serving as Secretary and President. He was also named to the following college honoraries: Phi Eta Sigma, Keys, Lances, Lamp and Cross and Tau Beta Pi.
John also met his future wife, Mary Rush Lynch, at UK. They were married in Louisville on September 4, 1952. After graduating in Engineering from UK, John served four years in the Air Force, then worked for the Kentucky State Highway Department, assigned to several major construction projects undertaken at that time including Interstate 64 and the Kennedy Bridge. John also worked for Ashland Oil before joining the George M. Eady Construction Company where he became an officer and shareholder. After retirement, John and Rush split time between Louisville and Manasota Key, Florida, and travelled extensively.
John was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha House Corporation, The Kentuckiana Arms Collectors Association, UK Alumni, the Filson Club, the Kentucky Historical Society, the Wild West Historical Society, The Cobblestone Estates HOA Building and Grounds Committee, and the National Rifle Association.
John is survived by his two sons, Philip (Kathryn) and Gregg (Kim), and grandchildren Karly, Kade, and Katie Rush.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Arch L. Heady Westport Road, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville KY 40222. A private burial for immediate family only will follow in Cave Hill Cemetery.
