James G Taylor Sr.

Known as Jimmy growing up and later as Jim, he was born on May 1, 1945 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late James Newton & Dorothy (Duncan) Dyer, Taylor, Jr.

He grew up in Buechel, KY, where he was adored by his Aunt Libby, grandparents Dr. Garland Dyer & Ida May, and Happy Taylor, Sr., and often spoke of childhood football games in the backyard.

He was a 1963 graduate of Seneca High School and a 1969 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in Architecture.

Jim married the love of his life, his high school and college fraternity (Theta Chi) sweetheart, Pamela Whittinghill Taylor, the unwavering rock of their family, on May 24, 1969. They began their life together and careers teaching high school in Ohio, and living in a trailer.

They eventually moved home to Louisville, KY, to raise their family of three children of whom he was the most proud. Jim had a talent for building and design, was a registered architect in more than 13 states, and was an advocate of solar technology well before its time. He took great pride in his contributions to various structures across Louisville, many of which can still be found throughout the city.

Jim enjoyed shooting sports, fishing, woodworking, and was the “keeper of family stories.” He would often say “ask a question and you get a pageant,” and he did not disappoint.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Pam of fifty-five years and children James (Jay) Taylor, Jr. (Brigid), Benjamin Whittinghill Taylor (Amanda), Elizabeth Stewart Lambuth (Taylor) Turner (David). His grandchildren, all who knew him as PaPaw, Bailie Shea, Charles, Malorie, & Vivian Taylor; Aiden, Emmett, & Owen Taylor; David Turner Jr.

He was preceded in death by his brother Wayne Allison Taylor, infant twin son John Whittinghill Taylor, and grandson David Anthony Turner, Jr.

Memorial gifts in his memory can be made to Tough2gether Foundation, www.tough2gether.org, directed to David Turner Jr.’s Fund to fight childhood cancer.

A visitation for Jim will be held Monday, November 25, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM at Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Rd, Louisville, Kentucky 40207, followed by a funeral service. A committal service will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218. The family invites everyone to a reception at the residence following all services.
