James “Cotton” Sauer, 90, of Louisville passed away on July 21, 2022. He was born November 8, 1931 to the late Clarence and Othelia Sauer. Cotton was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Joan Ising Sauer, sons Danny and Timmy Sauer, brothers Stanley and Russell Sauer, and sister Barbara Jennings. Left to cherish his memory are his sons James (Susan) Sauer, Paul (Cindy) Sauer, Bert (Theresa) Sauer, sister Mary (Bill) Darst, grandchildren; Whitney, Tony, Allyson, Karl, Hillary, Garrett, Brooke, Clayton, as well as 9 great-grandchildren.
Cotton was a graduate of the 1951 class of St. Xavier High School and then joined the Marine Corp where he served in the Korean War. After his service he was a salesman for the Oscar Ewing Dairy company and the General Welding Co. He retired from the Teamsters Local 89 Taylor Blvd branch. Cotton also volunteered for over 20 years at the Agape charity outlet in Oldham Co. He served as the President of Crystal Lake in Oldham Co. as well as the Optimist Club in Jeffersontown where he was known as a coach. He was devout Catholic and member of St. Bernadette Church.
A funeral service will be held Saturday August 6, 2022 11am at St. Bernadette Church 6500 St. Bernadette Ave. Prospect, KY 40059 with visitation prior from 9:30am-11am. A luncheon will be held at the parish center following the funeral.
