James Edward Rodgers was born on May 17th, 1933, his biological mother passed when he was very young, and he was raised by James and Glenn. He was one of three kids, raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Central High School, then went on to become a brick layer.
James Rodgers was married on February 14th, 1955, to Sue Verna, and together they had seven children-Reba, James III, Vincent, Windell, Derwin, Delissa, and Glen. From his seven children, he had the pleasure of becoming a grandfather to 18 grandkids, and a great-grandfather to 27 great-grandkids, whom all would grow to love and adore him immensely. The home he built with his wife and kids had become the place where holidays were celebrated, and long summers with his children and grandchildren were spent. Cookouts, 4th of July fireworks and birthdays were always a time to remember, where everyone and anyone was welcomed to come and enjoy good food, and great company. There was nothing he enjoyed more in his life then spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. Hearing the words papa, granddaddy, old man, or pops, always put a smile on his face.
He was very hard working, and always valued taking care of kids and grandkids. He was a great provider, loving father and grandfather. James departed this life on Saturday, September 18th, 2021. He leaves his children and family to cherish his memory and continue his legacy. We are thankful for his generosity and profound love. The memories he has given his loved ones are immeasurable, and everlasting. While this is a profound loss for all who loved him, and as much as he will be missed, he is going home to continue to be surrounded by love from his wife Sue Verna, two of his children, Reba and James III, his father, both of his mothers, and his siblings Robert and Freda
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 pm at Evergreen Funeral Home.
