Born to the late S. Brownie Hicks and Ella "LaRue" Hicks, James is also preceded in death by his baby sister Sheila Marie.
James is survived by his long term partner, Judy Hicks; his children Dawn Silva (John) and James Hicks (Lisa); his stepchildren Paula Lacey (Shawn), Bruce McKenna (Sandy), and Eddie McKenna (Alexa); his grandchildren Jessica Watts (Keena), Jared Krauth (Sarah), Ryan Silva, Aidan Silva, and Lily Perry; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings William Hicks (Lynn), Roger Hicks and Larisa Hicks; 11 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; 7 nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.
Jim adored spending time with his children and family, especially out in nature. Nature was his church. He was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran. He provided his family with countless memories from hiking and camping at Red River Gorge, Bernheim Forest and the Smokey Mountains and also enjoyed Estes Park, Monument Valley and National Parks out West. He loved adventures with his kids and grandkids and enjoyed amusement parks, zoos and space museums with them as well. He was an avid car enthusiast a hobby he passed on to his grandsons. Jim also was a huge History buff. He was a lover of movies and music which he enjoyed most when sharing with his family. He was a lover of animals, especially dogs and his many Schnauzers over the years. He was a gentle, loving, involved father, grandfather and great- grandfather, was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville KY 40218. A memorial service in James's honor will begin at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
