Helen was born on August 30, 1931 to parents Franklin and Catherine Garr. Helen was a devoted wife to George James Cannon, and they lived life side by side until George’s death in 1999. Helen supported George’s entrepreneurial spirit and worked alongside of him as they owned Cannon Electric Company, dry cleaning businesses and investment properties.
Helen was also a devoted mother to their three children. Throughout much of their family’s life, you would find The Cannon Family at Lake Cumberland almost every weekend during the summer months. While never the first one to jump in the water herself, Helen loved riding in the family’s boat and watching all her three children and eventually her grandchildren learn to waterski, tube and have many adventures on the water.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and siblings JoAnn Brown (Benjamin), Patricia Hollowell (Wayne), Charles Garr (Melva) and her loving husband of 47 years, George James Cannon. Helen is survived by her three children, Douglas Cannon (Sandy), Steve Cannon (Paula), and Carol Cannon Reynolds (Jay), as well as six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, the 13th from 11:00 to 2:00 at Arch L. Heady Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Rd, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 at Arch L. Heady Resthaven Funeral Home.
The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hosparus or the Norton Healthcare Foundation in support of the Norton Heart and Vascular Institute in Helen’s memory.
