Harold’s early life was spent traveling throughout the southeastern part of the USA with his parents and sisters during WWII, as his father looked for work to support them. The family returned to Louisville at the end of the war, and he attended schools in the city and county. After serving the in the Navy during the Korean conflict, he attended the University of Louisville and earned both a bachelor’s degree and later a master’s degree in engineering. His professional career was spent primarily working for the Department of the Navy. He retired from there in 1991. Most recently he was a principal engineer for Paradigm Engineers and Constructors. He ended his employment there in 2011.
He was active in the community, volunteering with the American Red Cross in disaster services and early on with the Habitat for Humanity. He had been a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Kentucky, Illinois, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. He was an avid fisherman, loved the outdoors, life member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of the American Legion. He was an amateur radio operator with membership in the American Radio Relay League. He was a member of New Life Church on Goose Creek Road.
He is survived by his daughter Judith Willis(Kent), son Michael(Sheila), grandsons Christian, Stephen, Michael(Angela), and Lukas, with all of whom he was well pleased. Sisters, Mrs. Barbara Halbritter Novak and Marcia(Mike) Schnell. He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse Patty, and son Robert.
Services will be celebrated at 2pm September 16th, 2021 at Evergreen Funeral Home. Visitation will be 11am – 2pm on September 16th, 2021. Expressions of sympathy can be gifted to New Life Church, designated for the Building fund.
