Getsel "Harold" Byers, Sr., a steadfast servant of faith and family, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on August 9, 1926, in Butler County, Kentucky, Harold was filled with wisdom dedicated to the service of God.
Harold's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Dona Byers; his brother, Edsel Byers; his sisters, Austine Seaton and Peggy Steen; and his beloved son, Harold Byers, Jr., and wife of 67 years Esther Byers.
His legacy continues through his devoted wife of nine years, Betty Byers, and his children, Sheilah Benson (Mike), Terri Byers-Abston, Teena Darnell (Bob), and James Grant Byers (Cindy). His memory will also be cherished by his 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren who will carry forward the values he instilled in them.
Harold's life was a testament to his multifaceted talents and his desire to serve others. He held a pilot's license, barber license, and mortician license, showcasing his diverse skills and interests. His leadership was recognized through his roles as President of KAC and KCS, and his wisdom was sought after as a member of the Kentucky State Chiropractic Examiners, the Board of Libraries in Jefferson County, and as a long-time member of the Board of Florida College.
For over 50 years, Harold served as an elder of the Expressway Church of Christ. His dedication to teaching and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ was evident in his tireless work with the church and its community, both in the United States and abroad. Harold's faith-filled life was a source of inspiration to many, and his wise counsel will be profoundly missed.
Harold Byers, Sr. lived a life of purpose and passion, touching countless lives with his generosity of spirit and his unwavering faith. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring impact of his life's work and the profound legacy he leaves behind.
A visitation for Harold will be held Friday, September 27, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Expressway Church of Christ, 4437 S 6th St, Louisville, Kentucky 40214. A graveside service will follow at Embry Family Cemetery, 1260 Grancer Rd, Morgantown, Kentucky 42261.
