He was born on May 10th 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Severn Prep School in Maryland and entered the Naval Academy in 1952 and graduated in 1956.
Upon graduation he was ordered to Pensacola, Florida where he entered the flight training program, then to Corpus Christi, Texas where he completed training in jet aircraft. He received his wings in 1957 then to Memphis, Tennessee where he was an instructor for basic and advanced instrument training. In 1962 he went to Oceana, Virginia to an A4D squadron and flew on the USS Independence with 3 cruises to the Mediterranean. He was selected for the test pilot program and was ordered to Patuxent River, Maryland for training. Following intense schooling in test pilot procedures, he was assigned to the Carrier Suitability unit, where he was to become the Primary project test pilot for the new Ra5c aircraft. In 1966, he reported to Sanford, Florida and was assigned to a Ra5c squadron for duty.
He deployed to Vietnam aboard the USS Enterprise and flew 72 missions over North Vietnam. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three air medals. In 1968, he deployed to the Mediterranean aboard the Independence. In 1969, he resigned from active duty and entered the Navy Reserves. He was assigned to Millington, Tennessee to fly the A4D aircraft. This tour ended in 1972.
He continued in the Reserves at a unit in Louisville, Kentucky and was promoted to the rank of Capt. And retired in 1982.
As a civilian, he became a program consultant for the Department of Education, Division of Pupil Transportation in the state of Kentucky, where he was responsible for school bus design and training school bus drivers. He retired in 1995.
His hobby was building and flying aircraft models.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife Betty J Clark.
He is survived by his children Courtney Stockman, James (Carrie) Clark , Ashley (Marty) Clark and Tom (Dana) Clark, his grandchildren, Jessica Clark, Kayla Heim, Nicholas Clark, Savannah Stockman, Lilly Stockman, Leah Clark and Emma Harrison, Great Grand Daughter Kali Heim.
His stepdaughter, LeTisha (Jeremy) and grandchildren Nikelle & Tallyn Bronson, His stepdaughter, Tana (Daniel) Magar and grandchildren Brandon & Dakota Curtsinger, His stepson, Ronnie Carroll (Tracy Lockwood).
Visitation will be held from 4-7 on Monday, October 10th and 9 -11 on Tuesday at Arch L Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Service will begin 11 AM at the funeral Home on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorial donations be made to The DAV or The Kentucky Humane Society.
