Floyd Clarence Carter Jr.

Floyd Clarence Carter Jr., 95, of Louisville, passed away on October 31, 2022. Floyd (F.C.) was born October 24, 1927, to Margaret Sizemore Carter and Floyd C. Carter Sr. He was married for almost 67 years to Bettie Lee Nichols Carter until her death in 2013.

Floyd was a great story teller, often telling beautifully detailed stories about his childhood, living in Louisville, Alabama, North Carolina, and Georgia. He spent most of his summers back in Louisville, and that is where he met the love of his life, Bettie, and married in March 1946. He was a member of the Magnolia Athletic Club and enjoyed many sports, including volleyball, tennis, basketball, and bowling; genealogy; birdwatching; listening and singing to music; and visiting state parks. He mostly loved spending time with his family. He served in the Army Medical Corps and was a proud recipient of the WWII Victory Medal. After the Army, he finished watchmaking school top in his class. He retired from Naval Ordnance after 35 years of employment. Floyd was a charter member of Faith Presbyterian Church since 1958, where he served on the Session, sang in the choir, and helped maintain and repair many building issues.

Floyd is survived by his children: Dianne (David, deceased) Rogalinski; D. Bruce (Linda) Carter; Carol (Dennis) Buckingham; and Douglas (Martha) Carter. He was Grandpa to Heather, Trisha (Jerome), Michael (Sherri), Scott (Cindy); Marcy (Greg), Matt (Pamela), Karen (Eric), Alan (Krissy); Brad (Sarah), Lindsay (Timmy); Gabrielle, Mattie, Jonah, and Sophia. He was Great-Grandpa to Jonathan (Madeline), Haley (Josh); Jackson, Garrett; Mariah (Angelo), Chris, Joshua, Katie, Skylar, Alejandro, Nikki; Jamie, Austin, Shelby (Ricky), Katelynn; Henry, Owen, Ryan; Katya; Xander, Kelsey, Luke; Ellis, Everett, Elizabeth; Vera, Violet; and Great-Great-Grandpa to Emersen; Anthony, Tre, Angelo III, Brianna, Jeremiah.

Visitation will be on Saturday, November 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Hwy.; funeral service will be at 1 p.m. after visitation. Interment will follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or to Crusade for Children.
