Ernest Gardner

AUGUST 23, 1947 – JANUARY 19, 2024

Ernest ("Ernie") Gardner III, 76, of Louisville, KY passed away on January 19th after an extended hospital stay.

Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Gardner, parents, Renice Ruggles and Ernest Gardner Jr., and two sisters, Diana Cissell and Mary Barrera. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Rebekah (Jon) Polack, Amanda (Mike) Taylor, Abigail (Shawn Severs) Gardner, and Katie (Michael Gainey) Gardner. He also has 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Ernie are his brother, Kevin Gardner of Texas, sister Sally Schmidt of Texas, and sister Victoria Bennett of Louisville.

Born in Maysville, KY, Ernie moved to Louisville in his youth where he attended Pleasure Ridge Park and Atherton High Schools. At University of Kentucky, he met Deb Cornmesser, who would become his wife after graduation. As true soul mates, they were inseparable and enjoyed many adventures in their 49 years of marriage

Ernie will be remembered as a devoted husband and father who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Throughout the years, his occupations included line cook, warehouseman, and truck driver.
