David Russell Thomas, 56, of Louisville passed away on December 22, 2022. He was born September 28, 1966, in Louisville, the son of the late Brigadier General Donald J. Thomas and Peggy Jean (Foley) Thomas. David attended Christian Academy of Louisville and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology from Oral Roberts University (ORU) in Tulsa in 1988. He worked at the Baptist Hospital East lab after he graduated until his retirement several years ago.
Survivors include his sisters, Donna McClennen (John) of South Carolina, and Linda Annett (Mike) of Michigan. He was adored by 8 nieces and nephews, Jennifer McClennen Brown (Myron) of Maryland, Melissa Libnoch (Mike) of North Carolina, Stacey Waller of South Carolina, Amy Fite (Chris) of South Carolina, Kimberly Bozeman (Dallas) of Alabama, and Joel David McClennen (Hannah) of South Carolina, Gretchen Petroelje (Ben) and Matt Annett, both of Michigan. He was also greatly loved by 27 great and grand nieces and nephews!
David was a member of American Mensa. He was extremely intelligent, fun to be around, and had a wit and sense of humor like no other. He loved the Louisville Zoo and was a long time member. He loved all things sci-fi and he often attended the Wonderfest Convention in Louisville. One of his fondest highlights was meeting Lee Meriwether, Catwoman, from the 1966 Batman movie. He enjoyed everything Star Trek, Star Wars, and Twilight Zone. He also had a fascination with the Titanic and was extremely sentimental of all the Kentucky Derby festivities.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 30, from 11am-1pm at the Arch L Heady Funeral Home on Westport Rd. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 30, at 1pm. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
