Craig was born on March 23, 1971 in Anderson, IN to Donald Allen Townsend and Sharon Wills. After graduating from Madison Heights Senior High School in 1989, Craig enlisted into the U.S. Army. He honorably served his country as a Combat Engineer. He retired as a decorated war veteran after 23 years of service. Craig achieved numerous awards for his dedication to duty and unwavering commitment to excellence. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5), Army Achievement Medal (3), Army Good Conduct Medal (7), and the National Defense Service Medal w/Bronze Service Star. During his enlistment, he served overseas in Germany, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bosnia, and Afghanistan. He completed his military service at Fort Knox, KY and resided in Louisville, KY. He is preceded in death by his brother Jerome Townsend; Mother-in-law, Terry Lee Bonds; Grandparents, Ruby Mae and Archie D. Stone; and uncle, James Earl Wills.
He is survived by his loving wife of 19 ½ years, Melissa (Bonds) Townsend; children: Darian Townsend, Nicaia B. Nash and Martez Bonds Sr. (Teondra); Father: Donald Allen Townsend; Mother: Sharon Wills; siblings: Donna Townsend, Danika Townsend, Gregory Townsend, Donald Townsend Jr., Diondra Townsend, Latrica Townsend, Marcus Peal, Cynthia McNabb (Tre), Christopher Townsend, Dontricka Townsend and Rodrick Townsend; his grandchildren: Deaundre Williams, Martez Bonds Jr., Zaire Bonds and Teona Bonds; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends who will greatly miss him.
A service honoring the life of Craig will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218. Interment with Military Funeral Honors will be at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 2– 8 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the funeral home.
