Charlie “The Barber” Walcott, 86 years old and a long time resident at Episcopal Church Home, passed peacefully Wednesday morning with his family by his side. Charlie was the co-owner and operator of Walcott & Sons Barber Shop for over 50 years. He also trained horses at Churchill Downs and drove stock cars at The Fairgrounds Motor Speedway. Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Mae Wright Walcott; his father, Charles Walcott, Sr.; son, Charles “Tony” Walcott; and daughter, Darlene.
He is survived by his fiance’, Sylvia Simpson; sister, Phyllis; brother, Allen; his daughters, Charlene, Joyce Mae, and Lesa; sons, Greg, Scott and Danny; his 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 12 to 4 pm Monday with a service to celebrate Charlie’s life at 4 pm at Arch L. Heady-Cralle, 2428 Frankfort Avenue.
