Upon graduation from Southern High School in 1953, Charles went on to attend the University of Louisville Medical School. Upon completion of medical school, he entered medical practice as an Anesthesiologist, practicing at St. Joseph Infirmary, St. Mary & Elizabeth, and retiring from Norton Audubon in 2012.
Charles was a member of Kosair Shrine, the Scotish Rite-Robinson Lodge, the Masonic Lodge, Louisville Wood Turners, Kyana Woodworkers, a Sunnyside Master Gardener and the owner of Preston Greenhouse.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years: Jonne; children: Stephanie Mercer Dollinger & Steven Mercer (Beth); mother: Ruthie; brother: Henry (Mary Lou); sister: Joy Keifer (George); grandchildren: Scott, Jacob, Conner, & Carson.
Visitation will be Monday August 21st, 2017 from 2-8pm, Tuesday August 22nd, from 1-8pm, and Wednesday from 9am until time of the service. A Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 7pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday August 23rd, 2017 at 12noon in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Hwy. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Grayson County, KY.
