Cassandra “Sandy” Jane Hollar, (72) passed away November 25, 2022 at home in Florida surrounded by her loved ones. She had been bravely battling metastatic breast cancer for nearly two years and came home in the care of Hospice in her final week.
Born in Shelbyville Kentucky, Sandy was the daughter of Garland Coleman and Florence Raisor. She grew up fast, being a young mom and wife. A graduate of Kentucky State University with an Associates of Nursing, she worked as Registered Nurse for most of her career and retired in Florida in 2011. Often referred to as a gypsy, she moved a lot and especially loved living in Florida and did so multiple times in her life, including most recently in Port Charlotte and Hudson Florida. She loved spending time with and talking to her family, especially her grandkids who affectionately called her “Gran” or “Granny.” She was always interested in what was going on in their lives. She took so much joy in meeting and watching the “babies” of the family.
Sandy loved going to the beach, to Churchill Downs, and to the casino. She certainly had good luck on the slot machines, especially “blazing sevens.” She loved to eat out at restaurants and almost always ordered fish, grouper was her favorite. She loved her pets, always talking to them like humans and loving on them. She was an excellent cook, learning early on from her mother-in-law, and loved teaching her family how to cook. She loved sharing and passing on her family recipes and appreciated the tradition surrounding them. She had quite the “green thumb” and was happy to help keep the plants alive when someone else couldn’t. She laughed at herself often and was known for mis-saying words and phrases, what she called her “Floridian slips” (Freudian slip). She enjoyed listening to music, Willie Nelson being her favorite, and recently learned how to listen to “Pandora’s Box” (Pandora music app) on her phone.
Strong in her faith up until the end, she read her devotionals daily, kept her bible close, and was ready to join her Lord and Savior when the time came.
Sandy is preceded in death by her father Garland Coleman, mother Florence “Ethel” Marie Adams Raisor, step-father Vernon Raisor, step-brother Jimmy Raisor (Beverly), step-sister Patricia Gividen (Bill), and her beloved grandson Robert Lane Hollar.
She is survived by her daughter Jackie Hollar, son Kenneth Hollar (Emily), grandchildren Alec Fern and Kelly Anne Marie Weller, sister Linda Robison (Randy), step-brother David Raisor (Lisa), step-sister Karen Chapman, and many other family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 from noon to 4pm with funeral service at 4pm at Arch L. Heady Funeral Home at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, Ky 40218.
