Burt graduated from Louisville Male High School and Rennselaer Polytechnic. He was a professional Engineer, private pilot and a WWII Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Louisville Boat Club and of the U of L University Club.
Burt First joined Crescent Hill Baptist Church in 1935. When in Louisville, he had served as Trustee, Deacon, Finance Chairman and Teacher.
He worked for American Standard for 40 years. First position was Engineer at the Louisville plant. He was then the chief Engineer, Corporate Manufacturing Coordinator in the New York headquarters, Vice - President of Manufacturing of the European Operations in Brussels, Belgium, Corporate Director of Energy Management in New York.The last 10 years he was President of A.S Energy, a subsidiary of American Standard.
Burt was blessed by two marriages. His wife of 46 years, Thelma Waters Van Dyke who preceded him in, and his wife of 14 years, Joyce Oldham Van Dyke who also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his four daughters, Marcia Martin (Owen), Diane Van Dyke (Mickey), Sandra Morgan and Jennifer Burnside (David). He also has 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Burt extends thanks to Barbara Grayson for her help and care in his final years of his life.
Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 10am - 11am on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. Louisville , KY 40222 with a funeral service starting at 11am at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum.
