I was too young to remember Mr. Vasile, however my parents spoke very highly of him. I met his son years ago as a child and he was the most generous and kind person. That alone tells me what kind of person Mr. Verdulería was.

My beloved neighbor Vas, so many wonderful stories but one memory (out of so many) stands out. Vas was ‘old country/school’ - he made his own wine as he  hated store wines. We, Vas and I, took a road trip (decades ago) to the Texas  ‘Hill Country’ where vineyards are numerous. Vas, wheeler dealer that he was, had found a grape farmer (I have no idea how, that was Vas) to sell him pressed grape juice which he could make into wine - and make he did!  The best, not even a close second, wine I’ve ever tasted and I’m not kidding - for the record I don’t like wine, but loved his creation!  I missed my friend deeply when he went back to his beloved California. Sure, we chatted from time to time, he visited Texas but it was not the same; he was not a few houses up anymore. Ahh but life moves on, a story as old as the hills. BLESSED I got one more time, one last happy and fun time, to sit and laugh with him at his son’s wedding - my soul needed that, really needed that. RIP my old friend, we will see, each other,  and drink wine, on the other side.

My dearest lovely crazy Romanian neighbor of Irish Shores Lane , Pearland TX.
You and Eva became family immediately . As I sit here and think of the laughter, the holidays spent together , the whining , Georgie in his bow tie and Tom glued to video games - I just smile . Every visit together was better than an SNL sketch as our blended generational and cultural humor all seemed to just work. Your love and kindness to my children. You were like an adoring grandpa on Christmas morning . The moments on your exquisite patio you both built which I just passed a few moments ago. We are blessed that Tom's wedding brought us back together for a final dance and dance we did. Most thought the old Vas had been lost but on that dance floor all the good old times surfaced . Gosh we just loved you and will see Tom " your son  as you shared so loudly on his marital day" and Eva  soon and raise a toast together . Rest in peace Vas and know that I never look at a spinning ceiling fan without smiling and hearing your whining ! 
Take care of us all up there and know that the Turnbough's will never forget you .
