Thomson L. Sun, DDS of Los Angeles, CA passed away at home on August 20, 2022, at 5:50am surrounded by his loving family. Thomson was 83 years old. He was born in China’s Shandong province later living in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong before immigrating to the United States. He studied chemistry during his undergraduate years at UCLA and graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Michigan in 1969. Thomson worked as a Lecturer in the Restorative Division of the UCLA School of Dentistry, a Senior Dentist for the UCLA Community Dentistry division, a dentist in the UCLA Faculty Group Dental Practice, a dentist at the CSUN Student Health Service, a dentist in his Santa Monica private practice, a dentist at St. John’s hospital in Santa Monica, CA, and as a dentist at Detroit General Hospital in Detroit Michigan. Thomson was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Yu-Mei Sun and his father, A.Y. Sun. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan, his son, Ari (James), and daughter, Gia as well as by his sister, Mary Sze (Eugene), brother, Paul Sun (Fong), brother, John Sun (Cecelia), brother, Bill Sun (Joann), sister, Lisa Tsao (Henry), sister-in-law, Jan Litwack, sister-in-law, Judith Stollerman, and many nieces and nephews. Thomson was an incredibly warm, loving, courageous, generous, empathic and kind husband, father, friend, and colleague. He will be forever remembered for his love and devotion to his family, his sense of humor, his wit, ingenuity, courage, and love of dentistry, his students, and patients. Thomson was a gentle soul who respected and befriended many people in his lifetime. He loved working on his home of 50 years and built many things from a koi pond to a room addition, and everything in between. Thomson will be forever in our hearts.
A tribute to Thomson will be held on October 8, 2022 at 10:00am, at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park – 1218 Glendon Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90024. All are welcome.
