August 13, 1948 - August 17, 2024
A passionate community activist and animal advocate, Judith Israel passed away from complications of surgery at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN on Saturday, August 17th. Judith's parents were Marcia and Lawrence Israel, co-founders of Judy's, a retail fashion chain founded in 1946.
Judith spent her childhood in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles and in Malibu. She attended John Thomas Dye School in Bel Air, Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, and Finch College in New York City. A lover of the ocean, Judith was a long-time resident of Malibu, supporting many environmental organizations such as Heal the Bay.
She was deeply moved by social causes and became an early supporter of the National Farm Workers Association's grape boycott and worked tirelessly with the Los Angeles Catholic Worker. Everyone who knew Judith witnessed her love for animals and her commitment to their welfare.
In addition to a multitude of beloved close friends, Judith is survived by her sister Jane and Jane's husband John Siegel and their two children Jack Siegel and Holly Siegel along with Holly's husband Tom Denison and their two children Isabel and Clara. We are all broken-hearted.
Funeral Services will be held at the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary, 1218 Glendon Avenue, Los Angeles, on Tuesday, August 27h at 11:11 a.m. In lieu of flowers please kindly consider a donation to Thrive Animal rescue
