Barbara died peacefully in her home on May 26, 2012. A native of Los Angeles, she graduated from Dorsey High School, while there she was a member of the prominent group "Glamourettes". She worked as a legal secretary during World War II and was in the Civil Air Patrol for several years.
She met and married Florida Gov. Elect Fuller Warren and became one of the youngest First Ladies. In addition to her official duties, she was active in the Miami Children's Hospital and later served as President. After Gov. Warren died, she moved back to Los Angeles. In 1962 she married William Richardson of Ohio, CEO of B.F. Goodrich, who unfortunately passed away ten days after they were married. In 1966 she married John Richardson, who later became President of Hughes Aircraft. They enjoyed 25 years of happiness until his death. After his passing, she married a longtime friend from Florida, James L. Knight of Knight-Ridder Newspapers.
Barbara was always active and held Board Positions in many charitable organizations both in Miami and Los Angeles. Most prominent are ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists), Footlighters, Childrens Bureau, The League for Children, St. John's Hospital Board of Trustees and Diadames of the Child Care League.
Barbara is survived by: many maternal cousins and her adoring pets-- Barbie and BJ.
Funeral services will be private. Future arrangements for a celebration of her life will follow.
