Mary Ann Killingsworth Alexander, 72, of Kilgore, flew away home in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 18, 2024. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, with the Rev. Danny Thornton officiating under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home in Longview Texas.
Mary Ann was born on September 9, 1952, in Kilgore, Texas, to Oliver and Dorothy Killingsworth. Mary Ann attended High School at Pine Tree High School. She was an honor student and cheerleader. She graduated in 1970. She then attended Kilgore College, receiving an Associates of Arts Degree in 1972. Ann attended Sam Houston State University, where she was a member of Sigma Tau Delta, Alpha Chi, and Kappa Delta Pi. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1973. Ann taught at Hallsville Middle School until 1976. She embarked on a new adventure 1976 when she enlisted in the U. S. Army. There, Ann met and fell in love with Roy J Alexander. They married the next year in 1977. During her service, Ann sustained a catastrophic injury, leaving her wheelchair bound for the remainder of her life. She retired from the Army in 1981 with honors.
Though Mary Ann and Roy were not blessed with children of their own, they passionately served their church family at Friendship Baptist Church in Kilgore. Mary Ann was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, perseverance, and unwavering faith in God. Her profound desire in life was for all of those she loved and served to have a deep and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ. “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands, and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” John 15:9-11 Mary Ann will be remembered for the way she lived, and for the profound impact she had on the lives of those who had the blessing of knowing her.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Roy J Alexander and her parents Oliver and Dorothy Killingsworth. Mary Ann is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Oliver and Deborah Killingsworth, her aunt and uncle Red and Sylvia Reid and Lynda Roberts Still Callahan, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family request memorials in Mary Ann’s memory be made to Church of God World Missions and to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
