He was born on February 16, 1926, to Earl and Mary Emens in Birmingham, Alabama.
He married Evelyn King and had one daughter, Barbara.
Henry received his education and graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham. Upon graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific. Henry was quartermaster on the U.S.S. Dauphin which transported troops, supplies and equipment to many ports in the Pacific. His ship transported the first occupational troops into Japan at the end of World War II while sailing into Tokyo Bay, where terms of the surrender was being signed.
After being discharged from the Navy, Henry attended Auburn University and graduated with a degree in Industrial Management. In 1953 he accepted a position with Lone Star Steel as an industrial engineer, as well as other positions. He was a resident of Daingerfield for fifteen years and was active in many civic organizations. Henry was a Boy Scout leader, volunteer fireman, and was elected to Daingerfield City council for eight years. Henry was a member First Methodist Church and served as chairman of the Board. In September 1968, Henry moved his family to Longview.
In 1983, the Lord led Henry in another direction as administrative Pastor of Longview Christian Fellowship, which is now High Ridge Church. Henry’s greatest joy was serving his church family. He will be remembered for his kind loving spirit to all he met.
Henry is survived by his loving wife Evelyn King Emens, daughter Barbara (Jeff) Mercer, grandsons Jeffery (Alaina) Mercer, James (Jessica) Mercer, great-grandson, James Talmadge Mercer, and great-granddaughter, Mary Bess Mercer, nephews, Terry Carter, and Fred Emens, niece, Becky Guffey, and several great nieces and nephews.
Extended Family: Larry and Amy Nolan, Murrey and Claudia Rabenhorst, and Tami and Daryl Bitting.
He is preceded in death by Parents: Earl and Mary Emens, brothers: Fred Emens and Frank Emens, and sister: Emogene Carter.
Henry was a loving husband, father and friend and will forever be in our hearts.
A private graveside service will be Monday, March 18, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Lakeview Funeral Home with Bill Leckie officiating.
Celebration of Life will be Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 6 p.m. with Pastor Tim Ingram officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Daryl Betting, Bob Cammack, Mark Clark, Paul Holloway, Mark Iwan, Bill Leckie, Murrey Rabenhorst, Tony Spraggins, and Tim Thornton.
