George was born July 21, 1945, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Mitchel and Bessie Pullin Guin.
To know George was to know his passions. He had a love and passion for so many things. He loved to work. Employed at LeTourneau for 36 years, and then by Trinity Industries 5 years, his office was the gathering place for coworkers and good friends. Everyone enjoyed George’s coffee – he was known for it. George enjoyed mentoring younger workers and teaching them from his vast knowledge of electrical expertise. Most of George’s closest friends have come from his work experience.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tammy; sisters, Dorothy and Carolyn; and brothers, Raymond, Mitchell, Jack, and Joe.
George was a loyal and loving husband to Shirley for 34 years. He treasured their lives together and was always giving her special presents at Christmas and other occasions.
George was a wonderful father figure to Kevin and Mark. He was loving and caring to them when they were growing up to the present. He gave to them constantly – everything that was his was also theirs.
George was a fantastic grandfather – known as “Poppy” to Tyler, Taylor, Laney, and Garrett. Tyler and Taylor were his “Bakersfield Buddies”, and Laney and Garrett were his “hunting and fishing buddies”. There is not a person who knew George who also did not know all about his grandchildren and about their accomplishments.
George loved animals. Whether it was building bird and squirrel feeders, or doting on his dogs: Buttons, Bear, Punkin, BoJo, BoJo the 2nd, Precious, and Buddy. He thought of them as his children.
George was as a wonderful musician, playing the drums and singing in bands for many years. His love for music was ever constant and was took great joy in sharing what he knew with others.
George had a passion for the outdoors. He was known far and wide for his hunting and fishing skills and ability. He was always at peace when he was outdoors. He was also a great teacher to those who wanted to learn to hunt and fish. He had tremendous patience. After retiring in 2007, he was able to spend a lot of time doing what he probably loved most … fishing.
George was a friend to everyone he met. Whether they were children or elderly, George loved them all. George’s life is summed up by the word GIVING. He gave his time, his friendship, his talent and knowledge, his money, his equipment, and most of all, his love and respect to everyone he met.
Always quick with a smile and a good joke, George will be missed my many, but they can take comfort in knowing right now he is probably saying, “Hey, Jesus, you hear the one about ….”
