Dorothy Ban Raney, 89, of Mims, Texas, passed away on January 6, 2013 at a hospital in Longview. Mrs. Raney, Grandma to those who knew her, was born on January 13, 1923 in Canton, Texas to Van and Lillian Belle Morphis Robertson.
Mrs. Raney enjoyed reading, being outdoors, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time at PJ’s Hairstyling. Before moving back to Texas, she retired from Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier, Idaho, where she was their head cook. She was an active member of Lake o’ the Pines Baptist Church, and a previous member of the women’s auxiliary of the Mims Volunteer Fire Dept. She married Ed Vernon Raney on November 10, 1940 in Kilgore, TX. He preceded her in death on April 11, 1994.
She is survived by her children: Eddie Raney of Brownsboro, TX, Sandra Grunig and her husband Roger of Montpelier, Idaho, Van Raney of Boise, Idaho, Danny Raney and his wife Pam of Mims, TX; grandchildren: Ricky Grunig, Jenni Raney-Edwards, Michelle Grunig-Reay, Buddy Raney, Rebecca Raney-Skinner, Lance Raney, Cathy Raney-Melendez, Daniel Raney, Darron Raney, Dewain Raney, Dustin Raney, Donny Raney; many great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister: Betty Brantley of Longview, TX; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013, at Lake o’ the Pines Baptist Church under the direction of the Lakeview Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Longview, Texas, for family's attendance. Pallbearers will be: Randy Farmer, Les Barker, John Stanford, Ron Peterson, Ken Neyhart, and Bert Willis. Flowers are permitted and memorials may be made in Mrs. Raney's honor to Lake o’ the Pines Baptist Church, 9046 FM 729, Avinger, Texas 75630.
