Charles Leslie Myers, 90, of Longview, TX. passed away Tuesday February 1, 2022 with his loving family by his side. He was born September 4, 1931 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Charles and Ethel Lee Myers. He attended Lone Jack Rural grade school and graduated from Pawnee High School in 1949.
His work history started while he was still on the farm, working for the USDA to measure wheat allotments. He went on to work for the ODOT Highway Construction, driving a dump truck. it was at the time he decided he did not need to go to college. He proudly served our country in the United States Army, at Fort Meade in Maryland. After he was discharged he used his G.I. bill to take flying lessons. Flying then became his passion for life. He then went to work for the Sunray Oil Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. From there he moved to the Atlantic Richfield Company in Corpus Christi, Texas before being transferred to Garber, Oklahoma and then White Oak, Texas where he remained until he retired in 1995.
He was a member of the GMC Motor Home Club from 1990 to 2021, where he traveled through much of the United States enjoying our beautiful country. He was a member of the Rusk County Pilots Association of Henderson, Texas for many years until it was disbanded, however, flying was always his passion. In his last few months he took us on many flights from his memories. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gladewater, Texas where he regularly attended.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris Martin and husband Henry; his brother, Jim Myers and wife Carol Ann; and grandson, Randal Cox. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Minnie Lou Myers; son, David Scott Myers and wife Laura; daughter, Kathy Lynn Reynolds; grandchildren, Amy, Tiffany, Jared, Justin, Brooke; great grandchildren, Jordan, Tyler, Jacen, Alex, Avery, DJ; ex wife, Wilma Spangler and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
