His parents were Robert H. Farr, and Attie E. Farr, both of whom predeceased him.
As a child he lived in Ennis, Conroe, Abilene and Longview, as his father worked building bridges throughout East Texas. Mr. Farr was predeceased by his wife, Wilma Jeanne Sam Farr, and by six siblings, Robert Farr, Leonard Farr, James Farr, Vera Dial, Plina West, and Helen Stroud. He told his family that when he became 91 years old, he and his brother, Robert, were the two oldest living members of the Farr family.
Mr. Farr joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 along with his brother, James Farr, and with their nephew, Don Dial. He served in the Korean War on the destroyer USS Mackenzie as a gunner’s mate third class, and was honorably discharged in 1955. He then lived in Napa, CA, working in as the lead salesperson for a drug store supply company for 10 years, until moving back to Longview, TX in 1965, where he married Jeanne Farr. He attended schools primarily in Longview, TX, and obtained his GED after his military service.
He worked as a machinist specialist for R.G. LeTourneau, and also owned and operated Farr Realty with his wife, Jeanne Farr for more than 40 years. He ran the realty company and actively maintained rental property until his death.
He learned to golf while caddying as a boy in Texas, and won several company golf tournaments while working in sales in Napa, CA. He continued golfing well into his eighties. He was a longtime member at Greggton First Baptist Church. Both Mr. Farr and his wife, Jeanne, loved to travel throughout the United States and enjoyed visiting many historical and natural geological sites.
He had two sons who predeceased him, Michael W. Farr, from Napa, CA, and stepson Danny Paasch, and stepdaughter Elizabeth Arnold.
He is survived by his son, Charles Wayne Farr, Jr., who lives with his wife, Renee Farr, and two daughters Alyssa Ruud and Katie Ruud, in Seattle, WA.
Mr. Farr is also survived by four stepchildren, Rod Paasch of Beaumont, TX, Sharon Bolton of Longview, TX, Bill Loomis of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Dorothy West of Tatum, TX, sister-in-law Opal Sam of Broken Arrow, OK, daughter-in-law Charlotte Paasch of Mineola, TX, nephews Randy Farr of Longview, TX, Bill Sam of Sapulpa, OK, and Kenny Same of Tulsa, OK., nieces Diane Bullock of Fort Worth, TX, Lynette Farr of Dallas TX, Jamie Farr of Longview, TX, Carolyn Sam of Sapulpa, OK, and Bobbie Sam and Lisa Sam of Broken Arrow, OK, grandchildren Clint Bolton of Longview, TX, Zac Bolton of White Oak, TX, Cody Bolton of Big Sandy, TX, April Dawson of Tatum, TX, Casey Jones of Henderson, Matt Shadwick of Shreveport, LA, Chrystal Simmons of Kansas City, Kansas, Carly Anderson of Austin, TX, Jamie Scott of Muenster, TX, Kari Valenzuela of Bakersfield, CA, Robbie Loomis of Oakdale, CA, Brad Russ of Longview, TX, Amber Sims of Hallsville, TX, and many great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Mike Bolton, Clint Bolton, Zac Bolton, Brad Russ, Bill Loomis, Jaxon Collum, Casey Jones and Austen Amburn.
A time of visitation with his family will be held Friday, August 11, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lakeview Funeral Home, 5000 W. Harrison Road, Longview, TX 75604, followed by a celebration of his life at 2:00 PM.
