Catherine Hunt, 69, of Denver, Colorado passed away peacefully in her slumber Saturday, August 15, 2020. Services are scheduled for 2pm, Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Lakeview Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at Lakeview.
Catherine was the firstborn of Frank Earl and Anna Marie (Wernet) Akins on April 16, 1951 in Houston, Texas.
Catherine is survived by her beloved daughter Katie Marie Hunt Leonard, son-in-law Ted and “the best, smartest grandboys” Jackson, Taylor and Cash; siblings: William “Bill” Akins (Dovena), Patricia Akins Leslie (Tony), Charlene Akins Montana (John Daniel); nephews: Tyler Akins, Joshua Poertner (Sayward), great nephews: Ethan and Noah John Poertner and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Catherine spent most of her childhood and school years in Waco and Woodway (Texas) and attended Reicher Catholic (Waco) and Robert E. Lee (Houston) high schools, and graduated Longview High class of 1970. She began work at age 14 at the local Dairy Cream and began her insurance career right after graduation. She excelled in all facets of the insurance industry with major firms as a Marketing Underwriter and belonged to several professional organizations. She was recognized by Who’s Who American Women and was owner/operator of ”Catherines Benefits L.L.C.” in Houston.
Catherine’s catholic upbringing was her faith foundation that had blossomed in recent years to a strong reliance on Jesus Christ and prayer, especially the Lord’s Prayer.
Catherine enjoyed sharing her gourmet cooking talents and playing cards and board games with family and friends, and as a member of social clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents and special friend Dayne Smith.
