Virginia “Ginny” Anne Morrow, 84, passed away on February 8, 2023 at Longs Peak Hospital after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was born October 25, 1938 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She spent her early years with her “Mamaw” and “Papaw,” Julia and P.B. Elliott. As a child, Ginny was a tomboy - a tough little girl with a big heart. She could play sports with the boys but still turn heads with her natural beauty.
When she was ten years old, Ginny and her parents, June and Bob Reid, moved to Indiana, where she lived until she graduated high school. Ginny attended the University of Indiana and later moved to Chicago where she worked in the airline industry. It was at this time Ginny met the love of her life, Warren Morrow. The two met through mutual friends. Their spark fanned into a flame and they were engaged a year later. Warren and Ginny wed in 1962. By that time Warren had joined the U.S. Navy and the two would eventually move to the San Diego area where Warren continued his service. Warren and Ginny welcomed two children while living in California: Kimberly and Thomas. After the service, Warren began his career as a manager with S.S. Kresge/Kmart. His work took Ginny on many adventures, as they moved to Oregon, Illinois, Iowa, back to California and ultimately, Longmont, Colorado in 1977. Ginny’s passion was being a wife and mother, but once the kids left home, she worked for the Colorado Rockies from 1997-2005. Throughout her life, Ginny’s outgoing personality made her a friend to many. She knew how to light up a room, could cook anything, but couldn’t carry a tune. That didn’t stop her from singing whenever she got the chance – especially at Coors Field where the fans loved to hear her sing happy birthday. Ginny wasn’t afraid to go anywhere or ask for anything, even if it embarrassed the heck out of her family.
Ginny and Warren had a strong circle of friends at their church and at the Moose Lodge. Ginny was an enthusiastic supporter of Longmont sports teams, as well as the Rockies, and the Broncos. In 2002, Warren and Ginny bought a cabin at Red Feather Lakes. This is where Ginny was happiest - watching the moose and other wildlife wander by and soaking in the beauty of the area. Ginny loved to fish and was good at it. In 2010, she welcomed her only grandchild, Nicholas, and loved to spoil him when he visited Colorado and during their many trips to South Dakota. When Ginny received her cancer diagnosis in late 2021, she approached it like she did most things – with a positive attitude and a determination to beat it. Ginny was the rock of her family and her absence will never be filled, but we’ll forever cherish the memories of her fearless personality and her zest for life. Her grandson, Nicholas, calls her “the strongest woman he ever knew.”
Ginny is survived by her husband, Warren, Longmont, her daughter Kimberly, Littleton, her son Thomas (Leslie) Morrow, and grandson, Nicholas, Sioux Falls, SD, her brother, Robert “Rip” (Susan) Reid, sister Deborah “Debbie” Reid, her sister-in-law, Marilyn (Duane Nelson) Raymond, several nephews and a niece.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruby June Reid, her brother-in-law, Larry Morrow, and an infant son, Timothy.
Thank you for joining us in celebrating Ginny’s life at Faith Community Lutheran Church in Longmont on Thursday, February 23, and for bringing your favorite stories about Ginny. (She’d say, “I gave you plenty to work with!”) Memorials may be directed to the Red Feather Lakes Community Library at P.O. Box 123, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, 80545.
