Rosie was born in Le Mars Iowa on her family farm. She attended Briar Cliff University in Sioux City and became a physical education instructor. She met Joseph Carney while they were both teachers at the same school in Humboldt. They married in 1958 and made a home in Longmont Colorado near Longmont High School, where Joe was head counselor until 1989.
They started a family by adopting four children in the 1960’s. Rosie founded and was chairman of the local Adoptive Mothers Club.
As a full time homemaker, she was a great cook and participated in the 1970’s Betty Crocker test kitchen program. She ran a successful cake decorating business from home. Her wedding cakes were beautiful and delicious and her children enjoyed unique personalized cakes for every birthday.
Rosie was a skilled seamstress making clothing and quilts for her family. She sewed elegant Barbie doll clothing to donate to local children at Christmastime, she and Joe’s favorite holiday. Their home decor during the holidays was second to none.
She was an avid sports fan, especially of her beloved Denver Broncos and was a long time season ticket holder. Rosie wore her Bronco regalia for home or away games, and family knew to “do not disturb” during any Bronco game time.
She and Joe travelled the world and enjoyed many cruises and adventures. They sold their family home in 2017 and enjoyed recent years living in Loveland Colorado.
