Richard was born in Minnesota on March 29, 1945 to Maxine and Roy F. Pierson. Richard grew up in a small town in Minnesota with three sisters. His father was one of two doctors in the area, whose hobby was showing Saddlebred horses. Richard was heavily involved with showing horses through his school years and has many trophies as mementos. After college, Richard served in the U.S Air Force.
He attended Slayton High School, Mankato State University and then graduated from Morningside College.
Richard married Karen Dietz (nee Lindquist) on July 19, 1975 and together they had three children, Richard Preston Pierson, Scott Deitz and Tammy Deitz. Richard has been a banker, bar owner, bookkeeper, was involved in real estate and insurance, he owned and ran two restaurants, and travelled the county for many years as a “Landman” doing easements for the Oil and Gas industry. He was still working at the age of 78 when he passed away.
Richard was also a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. In addition to being a dedicated father and husband, Richard was an avid road-trip traveler and had spent time in all 52 states. He was a huge Minnesota Vikings football fan and attended many CU Buff games with his wife Karen and friends. He loved building things, working on his house and yard, tinkering with cars and helping his son Richie work in his shop. He had so many friends and enjoyed being active with them and his family. He was a good man and will be missed by many.
Richard is survived by his spouse, Karen Pierson, children, Richard Preston Pierson, Scott Deitz (Jamie Reinhardt), Tammy Deitz, sisters, Sue Erie, Sally Hiner and Kristen Barlow and numerous brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his parents, Roy F. Pierson and Maxine Pierson.
Funeral services will be held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 1, 2024.
