Ray was the fifth of six children. He had three brothers and two sisters. Ray grew up after the Great Depression and his family had to live very frugally, making do or doing without. Still, Ray was an active child and teen who enjoyed many sports. He practiced often and perfected the skills to succeed at them. His love in participating and watching sports continued into adulthood. Ray also enjoyed fishing.
Ray joined the Air Force shortly after completing high school and served from March 1953 to March 1957. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received training in the military for his lifetime career as an Air Traffic Controller. He also later earned his private pilot’s license.
During his military training in Denver, he met the woman of his dreams in Central City, CO. Her name was Edna Mae McFarland and they dated a short time before Ray was deployed for a 18 month tour in Japan. Upon returning from Japan they reunited and were married in August of 1957. They had three children, Raymond, Rhonda, and Dale. Ray was an attentive, caring father that took his family on many fishing trips and car trips to see extended family and on scenic trips. He was supportive of his children and was beyond proud of them.
Ray was confident, meticulous, and a charismatic man whose big white smile charmed all those that met him. He was an avid sports fan and followed the Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles his entire adult life. He loved and encouraged his children to reach high in their goals to succeed in life. He wanted the best for them. When Ray was blessed with 6 grandchildren, he loved and enjoyed them immensely. He could not get enough of them and enjoyed watching them grow, coached them in sports, and celebrated all their accomplishments, and offered support in time of need.
Ray was preceded in death by his son, Dale Webber, his parents, Ernest and O’Grady Webber, and siblings: Wilburn, Ernest, Silvia, Hazel, and Ronald.
