He was born on May 20, 1931 in Roxbury, New York to Howard and Laura (Finch) Slauson.
Ray grew up in the Catskill Mountains of New York and graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1949.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 and served in various locations, including Korea and Japan. He was discharged in 1956. He married Alberta Finch on July 18, 1953.
Ray was hired by IBM in 1956 and spent his entire career with that company in various roles as a toolmaker, manager and “finance guy”, working in Kingston and Fishkill, New York and Boulder, Colorado.
Ray was active in the First United Methodist Church of Longmont as an usher and Sunday School teacher, as well as serving on many committees and attending innumerable potluck dinners. He was part of the church group that worked to re-settle Cambodian refugees in Longmont and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. He was always ready to help neighbors and friends with projects.
Ray was a wonderful grandfather to his 4 grandchildren and spent hours with them playing games, fishing, and attending recitals, sports events and birthday parties.
His family and friends will miss his hearty laugh and his ability to embellish and relay hilarious and somewhat true stories for everyone’s amusement. He was the life of any party he attended.
Ray is survived by three loving children, Linda Lang (Marc) of Longmont, CO; Tom (Nik Groesser) of Tucson, AZ, and Jane Slauson of Longmont, CO; four grandchildren, Sally, Joe, Megan and Jackie, as well as many cherished, longtime friends. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife Alberta and his brother, Harvey Slauson.
A memorial service followed by a reception will be held on Thursday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the OUR Center, 220 Collyer St., Longmont, CO 80501.
