Margaret Russell was born on February 26, 1930 north of Akron, Co to Ralph and Tressa (Bailey) Ross. She attended Union Center, a one room county school, went to 4H club during the summer and graduated from Akron High School. After attending college one summer in Greeley to earn her emergency teaching certificate, she taught in one room country schools north of Akron.
On June 18, 1950 she was united in marriage to Tom Russell. They were always together except during the Korean War when he was drafted and sent overseas.
In 1957 they left Akron and moved to Fort Morgan where they were baptized and joined the First Christian Church. There she was a stay-at-home mom, a campfire leader and involved in church activities.
In 1967 they moved to Firestone and she became Tom’s business partner. They were entrepreneurs and through the years they moved many times and had many successful business ventures in Fort Morgan, Flagler, Firestone, Lyons, and Longmont. They wound up North of Longmont near Mead. There, in 2002, she lost her beloved husband of over 52 years. The next year she was diagnosed with MS.
Margaret was a Colorado Centennial Pioneer and a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an accomplished seamstress and liked to play bridge, golf, and square dance. She also liked to boat, water ski, garden, travel and fly with Tom in their Cessna T210. They had a winter home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona in Lake View Park and later in Beachcomber Resort. They did a lot of traveling around the US in their motor home and had been to Florida, Canada, and Mexico. They took many domestic and foreign trips with Ports of Call travel club and had been on several cruises.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tom, her parents, brother Larry, and sister Phillis Kraich of Akron.
Survivors include her son Ben (Deanie) Russell, and daughters Sherry (David) Bolton and Stephanie (John) Stone all of rural Mead. Grandchildren Michael, James, Kaylee, Aiden, and step grandson Donnie Decamp, 3 Great Grandchildren, and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral Services for Margaret will be held on December 20, 2024 at 10:00AM at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with a viewing before the service. Graveside services will be held at Akron Cemetery the same day at 2:00PM.
