Kathy was born on August 20, 1938 in Lafayette, Colorado to Lizardo Borrego and Ophelia Tafoya Borrego. Raised in Lafayette she graduated from Lafayette High in 1956.
Kathy married Tom Naranjo on June 20, 2000 in Denver. They spent a beautiful and loving 14 years together. They thoroughly enjoyed each others company, traveling extensively, frequent dinner and dance dates. Tom so passionately dedicated himself as a tireless caregiver and compassionate husband during her illnesses of late.
In later years, Kathy worked for Boulder County Health Department for 24 years, retiring in 2004. Kathy knew full retirement was not for her; as she ended her career at the Boulder County Health Department, she took classes to become a Certified Addictions Counselor. Following the completion of the program she joined Monarch Counseling, where she worked counseling drug and alcohol addiction patients. This provided her much fulfillment helping in this area and feeling she was truly making a difference.
Kathy will be fondly remembered for her excellent cooking skills. Her family feasts, buffets and Holiday Dinners were a favorite to all.
Preceding her in death are her parents, a son Chris Martinez, her brothers Richard and Clifford Borrego, and her beloved grandson, Christopher Weis.
Surviving are her husband of Denver; daughters Arlene (Gregory) Weis of Westminster; Jeri Martinez of Arvada; Paula (Frank) Lopez of Longmont; and Sheila (Nate) Ruiz of Cheyenne; two brothers Robert Borrego of Lafayette and Ted Borrego of Westminster; 8 grandchildren: Frankie Lopez, Jr. Kaylee Lopez, Emilio Lopez, Maya Martinez, Joseph Weis, Andrea Martinez Lyle (Garrett), Anthony Martinez and Isaac Ruiz and great grandchildren Alecia and Xzavier Lopez and Felix Ramos and Kaiya, Noah and Malia Lyle and her former husband Richard Martinez of Longmont.
Visitation hours will be from 12:00p.m. - 4:00p.m., Friday, December 26 at the Howe Mortuary Community Room. A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., that evening at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1843 W. 52nd Ave, Denver, CO 80221. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27 also at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Denver, CO.
