Kathleen (Kay) Outcalt passed away on August 2, 2024, in Longmont, CO. She was born to Clifford and Aurelia Westerhelweg on August 22, 1936 in Cincinnati, Ohio where she spent all of her early life through her college years.
Kathleen attended Walnut Hills High School and graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1958. She taught grade school for one year after graduation before marrying Samuel (Sam) Outcalt in June of 1959. Shortly thereafter the couple moved to Boulder, Colorado so that Sam could pursue a graduate degree in Geology at the University of Colorado. During their time in Boulder, all three of their daughters were born. After a series of interim moves, they lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 1970 to 1996.
In retirement, as all three of their daughters eventually settled near Boulder, Sam and Kay would spend the summer in Longmont, enjoying the company of their children and 5 grandchildren, then migrate back to Fountain Hills, Arizona for the winter.
Kay was a devoted mother to her daughters, an avid volunteer (motor meals, Special Olympics) and a gardener. Throughout their lives, she and Sam took great pleasure in beautiful flowers and all of natures’ creatures and splendor. She loved being outdoors.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Sam) and her oldest daughter, Margot Carleen Planchard (husband Robert Planchard).
She is survived by her sister, Eileen Dekaney, daughters Melanie Outcalt Nygren (Charles Nygren), Stephanie Outcalt (Alan Guthals), five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
