Judy McDonough, 80, of Longmont, Colorado, passed away after a three-year battle with breast cancer on November 8, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 31, 1944, to Thomas and Ruth Huber.
Judy grew up In Cleveland, where she attended Shaw High School and graduated in 1962. She then attended and graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in Education.
Judy married Michael McDonough on February 4, 1970, in Peoria, Arizona. Her family moved to Longmont, Colorado in 1976. Together they had a fulfilling life, raising a family and creating lasting memories for their remaining years.
Judy dedicated much of her life to early childhood education, where she enjoyed teaching at Erie Elementary School for 22 years. During that time she also received her master’s degree in Whole Learning Education from Regis University in Denver. She retired in June of 2008, but continued to have a lasting impact on the children she taught. Judy was deeply involved in her community, being a member of the AAUW, the League of Women Voters, and an active participant in First Congregational United Church of Christ. She loved crafting, card making and stamping, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren creating beautiful memories together. Judy also loved spending time with her friends, including traveling in Europe, dining at gourmet dinner picnics, attending meditation classes and spending quality time at Thompson Park gatherings.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Tanya King (Wes) of Castle Pines, CO, her son, Ryan McDonough (Amy) of Timnath, CO, grandchildren Sydney and Keegan King, Reilly and Kieran McDonough, as well as her sister Kathy Straubel of Salisbury, MA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael McDonough, who passed away in July of 2015, and her parents Thomas and Ruth Huber.

Judy will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and remembered for her love of family, her commitment to education, and her warm, giving nature.
