Jack was born on May 8, 1934 in Danburg, CT to Dorothy (Holtzhauer) and Frederick J. Eckert. He grew up in Bethel, Ct and graduated from Bethel High School in 1952. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1954 – 1957. On July 15, 1961, Jack married the love of his life, Carol A. Grosner. They relocated to Longmont, CO from Connecticut in 1969. Longmont would become their forever home. Jack and Carol welcomed into the world three sons, John Jr., James, and Tom, and a daughter, Terry.
Jack was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He had started out in Boulder and then was transferred to Longmont. He retired in 1992. Following his retirement from the USPS, he served on the City Council for the Town of Milliken for two years. Jack was a member of the US Postal Union and the American Legion.
Jack was a true Coloradoan and spent a great deal of time in the outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping. He studied genealogy and history. He like to cook and enjoyed watching sports. Jack had a great sense of humor that he passed on to all of his children. Jack loved his family and his fondest moments were spending time with them. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of more than 61 years, Carol A. Eckert, sons, John F. Eckert, Jr., James S. Eckert, and Tom R. Eckert, daughter, Terry A. Grubbs, grandchildren, Zachary J. Eckert, Cody R. Eckert, Kelsey A. Hollis, Nathan C. Hollis, Cole T. Eckert, and Sydney H. Eckert, and by his sister, Loraine Merluzzi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Frederick Eckert.
Per Jack's wishes, no public services will be held. He was placed to rest privately at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO, with those he held closest in attendance. Fond memories and condolences may be shared at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com.
