She is survived by her husband Robert Babbin and their two daughters, Susan Farhar and Sandra Smith. Joan was a Lieutenant in the Navy Nurse Corps having served eight years when she met Captain Robert Babbin, USMC. They had served simultaneously at several common duty stations throughout that period having never met. She was at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital when Robert was transferred to 12th Marine District Headquarters in San Francisco. On a whim, both went to Oak Knoll's Officers Club on 19th May 1965. Neither had ever been to the club before. There they met for the first time, and six months later, on 4 December 1965 were married at Treasure Island, Naval Station.
Their magical union was blessed with two daughters who have been the light of their lives, and who have provided them with five beautiful grandchildren. Joan was the most wonderful woman and wife a man could ever have hoped to find. She was a devoted, kind mother who always put her family first. She was an active volunteer with her daughters' schools, Friends of the Library, and The Breast Center. She was quick to laugh and had an immense depth of empathy for others. Her memory will live forever in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
Joan was a 1952 graduate of Gering High School and Western Nebraska Nursing School in 1955. She worked as a civilian nurse until commissioned as a Navy Nurse in 1957. She was preceded in death by her parents Lucinda Nicholson Davidson and Ray Davidson, and her two brothers Darold and Mickey Davidson all of Gering, Nebraska. A committal service with full military honors will be held on Monday, April 6 12:15, area B at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
