Janet Hamilton age 87 years, passed on from this life on Memorial Day May 31, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was a long-time educator in the Central Consolidated Schools District before retiring and moving to Colorado to live with her son Jim and daughter in law Rita Atcitty in 1999.
Janet Lacobelli was born March 21, 1934 to Arthur and Anna Lacobelli in Raton, NM. She was the oldest daughter of 7 children. She attended St. Patrick’s Academy from grades 1-12. She received a full musical scholarship to attended college at New Mexico Highlands University where she met the love of her life Oscar M. (Jack) Hamilton (d.1997) and was married in 1955. Together they raised three sons Jim, Jay and Jon. She went on later in life to earn Magna Cum Laude recognition-twice-at New Mexico State University. She began her teaching career in 1970 earning several awards and distinctions for excellence in education. In retirement she enjoyed music of all types especially the Hawaiian singing of The Brothers Cazimero. She possessed a hearty sense of humor, enjoyed a fine home cooked meal, going for a ride every day, a good song, lots of hugs and kisses as well as the peace and quiet of a life well lived. She is survived by her three sons, daughters in law Rita, Kelli Spring and Melinda Hamilton. She had 6 grandchildren; Stephanie Craft, Jason Hamilton, Scott Hill, Jenny Hill-Jack, Carrie Schoenberger, and Heather Faulkner. She also was a great grandmother of 10.
A private family service will be held at a later date on Raton Pass.
