James Fredrick ""Jim"" Carmody, of Longmont, Colorado, died June 14, 2008 at his home following a battle with cancer. He was 70 years old.Jim was born October 22, 1937 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Seth and Lenora (Brooks) Carmody. After graduating from Arcadia (NE) High School in 1955, he served in the US Army as an aircraft mechanic.On November 10, 1963, Jim married Kathryn Sue Rowe in Estes Park, Colorado. The couple made their home in the Boulder area until moving to Longmont in 2000.Mr. Carmody worked as a chemical analyst for IBM for 27 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks #556 in Boulder, and the BCCA (Brewery Collectibles Club of America). He was a fan of CU football, the Denver Broncos, the Colorado Rockies and the Avalanche. He was also an avid gardener who loved to grow anything, especially vegetables.Survivors include his wife, Kathy; two daughters, Desiree Stone and her husband, Chris, and Chantal Howard and her husband, Brett; a brother, Jack ""Seth"" Carmody and his wife, Patricia; and a sister, Lavonne Cox. He is further survived by four grandchildren, Brady, Maryssa, Dylan and Anthony; and by numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Dixie Lee Carmody as an infant, and Phyllis Codner.Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, Longmont.Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Suite A, Lafayette, CO 80026.
