Emily Kathleen Leebens Tomasetti was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on Saturday, May 28, 1994, to William M. Leebens, Jr. and Elizabeth Rygaard Leebens. Emily’s birth was preceded by that of her brother Will (William M. Leebens, III.)
Emily was a shy child, often reluctant to speak; when she did speak, she displayed insight and
depth of emotion far beyond her years. She also exhibited a love of animals, and a goofy and sarcastic sense of humor that characterized her for her entire life.
In 1999, Emily and her family moved to Sarasota, Florida, where she began school. She
attended grade school, middle school, and high school in Sarasota and Manatee Counties in Florida, where she participated in music and dance, and earned a GED. Emily loved books, and was a gifted writer and poet; her poetry. Emily was fiercely loyal to her family and friends, and was an unflinching supporter of social justice causes.
In 2014, Emily moved to Longmont, Colorado with her father and her best friend, TJ Tomasetti. Emily loved the mountains, and frequently enjoyed exploring them with TJ.
Emily and TJ were married in 2018, and were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Nova Grace Tomasetti, whom Emily adored. Towards the end of her life, Emily wished to be known as Jamie Quinn Sterling.
Emily is survived by her husband and daughter, TJ and Nova Tomasetti, of Longmont, Colorado;
by her father and stepmother, William M. Leebens, Jr. and Patricia L. Gossard, of Longmont, Colorado; by her mother, Elizabeth Leebens, of Denver, Colorado; by her brother, Will Leebens, of Panama City, Panama; by her father in law, Thomas B. Tomasetti, of St. Petersburg, Florida; by uncles, aunts, and cousins from across the United States, and by dozens of loyal friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Emily’s name to an LGBTQ, mental health, or addiction organization of the donor’s choice.
